Background of “The Reason Why”: Twice’s Second Japanese Comeback Had Begun!
On February 5th, 2020, Warner Music Japan released a repackage album of &Twice. This album was simply titled &Twice-Repackage. “The Reason Why” was the eleventh track, also the last track on this repackage album. &Twice-Repackage had two lead singles, one of them was “Fake & True”, and the other one was “Swing”.
Story of “The Reason Why”: A Track About the Reasons For Loving Him
The lyrics writer of “The Reason Why” was Watanabe Natsumi. Erik Lidbom and Fast Lane composed this song together, while Erik Lidbom also arranged this song. “The Reason Why” lyrically talks about the reasons why a girl loves her man. The reason why she loves him is that even in her lowest point, and even in her highest point, he always stays by her side. They trust each other, they stay by each other’s sides, and overcome their sadness together.

“The Reason Why” Performance: Performed in Twicelights, Twice in Wonderland, and V Live Broadcast
“The Reason Why” was performed for the first time on October 23rd, 2019. At that time, Twice performed “The Reason Why” as part of their world tour titled Twicelights. This world tour took place from May 25th, 2019 to February 23rd, 2020, in six Asian countries and two North American countries (USA and Mexico). Twicelights had 25 shows in total, with 21 of them held in those Asian countries and four of them held in the USA and Mexico. “The Reason Why” was performed only in Leg 3 – Asia, specifically in Japan. They performed this song from October 23rd, 2019 to February 23rd, 2019. The Leg 3 shows were done in seven Japanese cities, which were Sapporo, Chiba, Osaka, Miyagi, Aichi, Fukuoka, and Shizuoka. Because there isn’t any choreography for “The Reason Why”, the members performed this song by standing or walking around the stage. Twice members should have performed “The Reason Why” again as part of their Twicelights show in Tokyo from April 15th to April 16th, 2020, but, this Tokyo concert was canceled due to the spreading of the Covid-19 pandemic throughout Japan. Twice performed “The Reason Why” again on March 6th, 2021, as part of their special live concert titled Twice in Wonderland. At that time, Twice did a partnership program with NTT Docomo to hold a live online concert. This concert was broadcast using AR (augmented reality) and MX (mixed reality) technologies. On the next day (March 7th, 2021), “The Reason Why” was performed again in a V Live broadcast of some of the members. In that broadcast, Nayeon, Momo, and Sana sang this song and also the song “Pink Lemonade”.
