Thamizhachi Thangapandian also known as Sumathy is an Indian Tamil poet, lyricist, orator, politician and writer. She was elected to the Lok Sabha, lower house of the Parliament of India, from Chennai South constituency in the 2019 Indian general election as a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. She worked as a lecturer in English at Queen Mary’s College before dipping into politics. A revered Tamil poet, performer, and politician, Thamizhachi Thangapandian aka Sumathi poems/articles have been published as various books – Enjottu Penn, Ganapathi, Pechcharavam Kettiliyo, Manjanathi, Sol thodum dhooram, Kaalamum Kavithaiym, Arukan, Island to Island (English). She is the daughter of late leader Thangapandian and will be contesting in the upcoming elections with a DMK ticket.
