Song Hye-kyo Donates Books on Hangul Day
Song Hye-kyo commemorated Hangul Day (Korean alphabet) on Wednesday, September 10th, 2019, with a noble deed. The Encounter star donated 10,000 copies of South Korea’s guide to the Utoro Village in Japan. Song Hye-kyo collaborated with Professor Seo Kyung-duk from Sungshin Women’s University and donated 10,000 guidebooks to the museum of the Korean independence movement in Chongqing. “Today is Hangul Day, where we celebrate the creation and distribution of our Hangul language. To commemorate this day, actress Song Hye-Kyo and I will once again continue our project by donating Korean guidebooks to Korean historic sites throughout the world,” wrote Professor Seo Kyung-duk via his Instagram page. “This is Song Hye-kyo’s 17th time donating a guidebook. I am very happy that she gave an example, as a Hallyu star, for how to represent her country,” Professor Seo Kyung-duk added. The donated books, available in Korean and Chinese, are published through Professor Seo Kyung-Duk and can be downloaded via a new website established this year. The guidebook tells the history of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, which was founded by independence activists living in exile in China during the Japanese colonial occupation. “We have donated a copy of the guidebook to the Provisional Government Memorial Museum in Hangzhou earlier this year for the 100th anniversary, and we are donating again to the Chongqing museum to honor National Liberation Day,” Professor Seo Kyung-duk continued. Even in early 2019, the two donations of the guidebooks were in Tokyo, Japan, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. While in Den Haag, Netherlands, an exhibition was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the March 1 Movement. “The history of the Korean independence movement abroad is not well preserved. But if we visit these places and show our interest in them, then that is the best way to preserve it,” concluded Professor Seo Kyung-duk. Song Hye-kyo is reportedly very supportive of education about Korea, by helping to provide Korean-language services to famous museums around the world. She also continued donating Korean pamphlets to historical sites around the world for the “Meet Our Country’s History Abroad” series.
