Yoo Seung-ho and Lee Se-young in Memorist
Dong Baek (Yoo Seung Ho) is a detective with supernatural powers. He can take a glance into the memories of the person he touches. Unlike most fictional heroes who hide their identities, Dong Baek actually makes the world aware of his abilities when he dares to fight evil. Dong Baek teams up with talented criminal profiler Han Sun-mi (Lee Se-young) to stop a killer and prevent further deaths when a series of unsolved murders occur. Having solved five cold cases that even a detective with supernatural powers could not do, Han Sun-mi is the youngest to complete a degree, obtain a doctorate in criminal psychology, and become a senior police superintendent. She’s got a secret that motivates her to do what she does. Nevertheless, as they undertake the killer, the truth about their own troubled pasts starts to crumble, and the murders rapidly become even more convoluted than they could have initially expected. Memorist (메모리스트) is a South Korean drama series based on the 2016–2018 Daum webtoon of the same title by Jae Hoo. It aired on tvN from March 11th to April 30th, 2020, every Wednesday and Thursday. With a total of 16 episodes, the audience was presented with the mystery and fantasy crime genre drama with an unpredictable plot for about an hour per episode. The drama tells about two highly qualified professionals who come together to fight a serial killer with abilities that transcend their combined abilities. Dong Baek has a dark story about his childhood. After his parents died, he lived alone. Baek later found out that while growing up in his teens, he has developed special abilities. He is able to find out the memories of a person when he makes physical contact. Not just Baek, there is also the character profiler Han Sun-mi, who is no less interesting. She is the youngest woman to succeed in getting a police commissioner position. The drama is full of humor and messages about love, friendship, and family. Yoo Seung-ho and Lee Se-young’s acting successfully drew the public’s attention with their chemistry. The drama production crew said, “The atmosphere on the set was comforting and focused. The synergy created by Yoo Seung-ho and Lee Se-young, who explored the depth of their characters, was phenomenal. As time goes by, more real power will be displayed. The collaboration between Dong Baek and Han Sun-mi, who captured clues about kidnappings and serial killings will begin in earnest. Yoo Seung-ho and Lee Se-young’s Off-screen Moments
Yoo Seung-ho and Lee Se-young were reunited in the drama Memorist after having starred in the same drama titled Missing You back in 2012. At a press conference, Lee Se-young said, “It feels like we weren’t apart for eight years because we have such great teamwork. We are going to showcase perfect compatibility. You can look forward to it.” Yoo Seung-ho also shared his thoughts about their reunion, “Lee Se Young is a senior in acting compared to me. As Lee Se Young said, we fit very well together. We match well when it comes to what we find funny and acting. Maybe it’s because we’ve seen each other when we were young, but even though we didn’t act a lot together, I trust her.” Yoo Seung-ho also said that Lee Se-young was even more friendly than he’d expected, and he felt very comfortable acting with her. In an interview about the drama, Yoo Seung-ho introduced his character to viewers, “I’ll portray Dong Baek who has supernatural powers. He only uses his supernatural powers for justice.” After Memorist ended, he said, “I really enjoyed my time as Dong Baek. It seems like yesterday that the first broadcast aired, but time has passed so quickly. I’ve been working without a break for five months, and I think I was able to finish a good drama with everyone’s efforts.” Yoo Seung Ho continued, “I do have regrets, but it’s my first time acting in such a genre, and it will last as a great memory for me. Thank you so much to everyone who has loved Memorist and Dong Baek.” Yoo Seung-ho also shared his favorite moment of Memorist. The most memorable thing to him is when Dong Baek and Han Sun Mi start collaborating for the first time, using their supernatural powers and profiling skills to track down the victims. Lee Se-young also added her favorite scene of the drama, “My most memorable moment was the moment where it was revealed that Jin Jae Gyu isn’t the culprit. Han Sun Mi had been chasing this man for 20 years because she was convinced he had the power to erase people’s memories, so the moment she realized he couldn’t be the ‘Eraser’ killer, it changed everything for her.” Watch their behind the scene and funny interviews here:
