Beshear and his wife Britainy are members of the Christian Church and serve as deacons. They have two children. The Democrat is the son of Steve Beshear, the 61st Governor of Kentucky, who served from 2007 to 2015. Beshear earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and anthropology from Vanderbilt University. He also attended the University of Virginia School of Law and received his Juris Doctor. He was hired by the law firm Stites & Harbison in 2005. Beshear graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University, and from the University of Virginia School of Law and has represented the developers of the Bluegrass Pipeline, which would transport natural gas through the state. Steve Beshear was the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 2007 to 2015. Beshear was raised with the values of family, faith, and hard work. He grew up in Fayette, Franklin, and Clark counties Beshear is married to Britainy with whom he has two children, Will and Lila. The family attends Beargrass Christian Church where Beshear and Andy serve as deacons. The couple serves on the Maryhurst Board and founded Hope Gallery during Child Abuse Prevention Month in 2016. Conway could not run for reelection due to term limits. Andy defeated the Republican Party nominee, Whitney Westerfield and was later sworn into office in January 2016. Andy declared his candidacy for the Democratic Party nomination for Governor of Kentucky in the November 2019 election on July 9, 2018. Beshear was elected the governor of Kentucky on November 5, 2019, winning against his rival and Trump-backed Matt Bevin. Andy sued Matt Bevin, the Governor of Kentucky in April 2016, over his mid-cycle budget cuts to the state university system, which he also says Bevin is not authorized to do. When Mat Bevin tried to illegally cut the promised retirements of teachers, police officers, firefighters, social workers and city, state and county employees, Beshear sued, won and voided that bill. The Kentucky Supreme Court unanimously agreed with Andy that you can’t take an 11-page sewer bill and then turn it into a 291-page pension bill and pass it in six hours with no public comment. When Mat also illegally cut the budgets of every state university and community college, Beshear stopped him and returned over $18 million back to the institutions. When Bevin restricted access to the state Capitol building from Kentuckians who were exercising their constitutional rights to show up and make their voices heard, Beshear quickly put out orders to allow every single person to come in. Jacqueline Coleman is an educator, basketball coach, and founder of a non-profit. Her family lives in her childhood community in Mercer County. He launched Scam Alerts, the state’s first direct text scam warning system and signed up 24,000 seniors for alerts and he returned $2 million that was stolen from Kentuckians. He worked to arrest more human traffickers in 2018 than in any year of the state’s history. Andy had filed nine lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies for their alleged involvement in fueling Kentucky’s opioid epidemic by November 2018. He joined 15 other attorneys general in December 2018 in opposing the ruling of a Texas judge that the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was unconstitutional.
